Iceland - Day 8
Today was another good weather day, so we decided to make the most of it with a trip to Reykjavik, we set off on a slight detour to visit the geothermal region at krysavik (selton) and the sights there were awesome.
When you pull up the sight of steam and yellow earth is apart as well as the smell of sulphur, it's not until you walk right up to the bubbling mud pools the a smell of what can only be described as poison hits the back of your throat, very powerful. Once you get over this and tell yourself that it's probably ok to breath this in you are greeted to some great views and just mesmerising pools of boiling water coming out of the ground, the site is also littered with signs warning not to stray off the paths and to beware of 'steam explosions' - got to love iceland!
After this we headed up the road passing massive frozen lakes and stunning views to come to the capital Reykjavik, here we got a bite to eat and expored some of the awesome shops. Reykjavik is a city which knows good design and has a running theme of clean design and very up market trendy shops, we also stopped for a coffe at a great little shop, the best part of this town is the lack of chain stores and abundance of independent little shops and great looking restaurants, if only we had more time to explore, I can't wait to revisit this great place.
That's all for today, feel free to check out the other posts and leave a comment below!
